The President Is The Supreme Law Of America - 1050 Words

In the political system, the president is the most powerful person in the government who has to make the political decision and be the signature for the foreign countries. To be a leader of the country, the president needs suitable power to work on his duties in the government. The president has different sources of power, constitutional, institutional and political system. The constitution of U.S is the supreme law of America, moreover, it is the first sources that stated the power of the president. In section 1 of Article II of Constitution, It describes how the president is to be chosen and defines the election process that president is elect by people. For example, President Abraham Lincoln combined the state militaries into the national volunteer force during Civil War. This action does not any power from the constitution to support or discuss by the congress. However, calling military can protect the nation which is the president assuming to do, so the president has the inherent power to make the decision for emergency (Ginsberg, et. al. 2014: 309-310). Although the constitution states the power of the president, it also limits the power. The expressed powers are only the small part of the constitution power. The most important power source, delegated power, is limited by the congress. The Congress has the power to right out bills for the president to vote on it. President has the power to veto the bills, but the congress can override the presidential veto on a law. Also, if President wants to make a change in the constitution, he has to gain support with more than 2/3 of Congress and  ¾ of the States. In addition, the Congress has the right to impeachment and remove the president from office. There are some statutes limits the expressed powers of the president.
